Excellent Dumpling House is a shanghainese in New York, New York. It is listed at 165 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011, which places it among the local businesses of New York that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under chinese restaurant, dim sum restaurant, dumpling restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in New York; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in New York are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–1 am. New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around New York is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Excellent dumpling house is indeed — EXCELLENT! What i ordered and truly enjoyed: - Egg drop corn soup: very heartwarming, whets my appetite for dinner. - Steamed shrimp dumplings: freshly made, ample fillings, paired with soy-like sauce which i didn’t think much of, but it was such a delicious umami bomb, it blew my mind - Spicy shanghai seafood noodles: sizzling hot, deliciously stir fried in chili, tossed with a generous serving of seafood. i couldn’t stop eating, i finished the whole serving and my belly was dancing from joy. You also get a discount if you pay in cash! What a treat. Will definitely be back! 🤤🤤

Full disclosure, we were hungover and starving prior to this meal. That being said… Excellent Dumpling House is, well, excellent. I loved the cozy, low-key atmosphere, the service was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed our food and finished the generous portions. Exactly the kind of satisfying meal you hope for when you need a recovery lunch.

Excellent place, very comfy and service was good. Food was also great, our favorite were the pork steamed dumplings. Will definitely recommend if you’re in the city and looking for a chill place to eat.

This is one of our favorite lunch spots in NYC. It’s simple, casual, and consistently delicious, with quick service that makes it perfect for a busy day. Everything tastes fresh and comes out hot. The soup dumplings are a must-order - juicy, flavorful, and filled with rich broth. The pork fried dumplings were crispy and so satisfying, especially with the soy chili sauce. We also loved the house special beef curry, which had tender beef in a deeply flavorful sauce, and the beef with string beans was equally delicious. Great food, fair prices, and the kind of place that keeps you coming back.

Short review/recommendations: XLB/Xiao Long Bao, Hot & Spicy Wontons (mild but excellent,) Honey BBQ Spare Ribs, and Shanghai Style Fried Noodles. Originally opened as a small restaurant in Chinatown on Lafayette, right off Canal, this spot serves Shanghainese and Cantonese food with a wide selection of dim sum. I was here with a very large group a good while back, and the friendly staff was very happy to accommodate all of us, with our group taking up two large tables and then some. They had the typical selection of beers and other soft drinks, but as per usual in less fancy Chinese spots, I stuck with tea. We first received a lot of dim sum. The Steamed Crabmeat & Pork Xiao Long Bao, which includes 6 pieces for $11.95, was above average. The skin was thin, the inside had a good, meaty filling, and the soup was well-flavored, mostly with pork and a bit of crab. It wasn't the best XLB I've had, but it got the job done. Also good was the Hot & Spicy Wonton, made with mixed pork and shrimp and served with hot oil and peanut sauce. These included 7 pieces, and the price at $10.75 was comparable to most Szechuan places. I wish the sauce had been more pungent, but it's a Shanghaines
